The Prairie in a Pocket Watch
6in x 8in · metal panel
The watch stopped in 1987. The prairie inside it did not. Nobody knows who built the watch, only that it no longer keeps ordinary time. When opened, it reveals a prairie world still moving beneath the glass—windmill, fields, weather, and distance. The hands remain fixed. The landscape does not. No record has been found explaining when the prairie appeared or whether it was always there.
